A Thousand Winds
Dog Carrying Dinner to It’s Master, 1846, oil on canvas by Joseph Stevens, Belgian, 1816-1892. Collection of Princess Gorchakov, St. Petersburg, Russia, and obtained through the museum fund by The Hermitage in St. Petersburg in 1923.
The dog at the center of this painting displays courage and loyalty as, outnumbered, he defends a food basket for his owner from a roving band of street dogs. Quite a clever little beast. too. My Westie can rarely find her own toys when she’s practically sitting on them. This dog fetches dinner and a bottle of wine to go.
